Industry sources recently revealed that Apple may start to use its own chips in Macs to replace Intel’s by 2020.

The initiative, called Kalamata, is part of a larger strategy which seeks to make all of Apple’s devices work together seamlessly. However, the move is expected to deal a significant blow to Intel whose business with Apple accounts for 5% of its annual revenue.

All iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs currently use Apple-designed ARM processors, and it is said that using its own chips on Macs would let the phone maker release new models based on its own schedule instead of relying on Intel’s processor roadmap.
