China Telecom Corp Seen to be Philippine’s 3rd Telco Player

According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology secretary Eliseo Rio, China Telecom Corporation had been invited by President Rodrigo Duterte to be the country’s third telecommunications provider in a bilateral meeting which was held last November 16. The government is currently looking for a local partner for the China’s state-run telco for a 60-40 partnership. Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar further revealed that the government has fast-tracked the effort since citizens are already getting annoyed with the unsatisfactory services provided by the country’s current duopoly of PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc. Government to Ask Startup Community for Environmental Fixes

Private stakeholders and the Department of Information and Communication Technology is looking to ask for the help of the startup community with the country’s environmental issues in the Philippines’ premiere annual tech conference Geeks on a Beach (GOAB).   The fifth GOAB hopes to attract serial entrepreneurs and Fil-Ams from Silicon Valley to add more depth to the event, says event organizer Tina Amper of TechTalks.ph.
