According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology secretary Eliseo Rio, China Telecom Corporation had been invited by President Rodrigo Duterte to be the country’s third telecommunications provider in a bilateral meeting which was held last November 16.

The government is currently looking for a local partner for the China’s state-run telco for a 60-40 partnership. Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar further revealed that the government has fast-tracked the effort since citizens are already getting annoyed with the unsatisfactory services provided by the country’s current duopoly of PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc.
