Apple acquires German company SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) reports MacRumors.

The eye-tracking firm is a significant contributor to the eye-tracking industry, producing hardware for consumer-centric applications such as virtual reality eye-tracking and proprietary eyeglass research. The company also created an eye-tracking development kit made for the HTC Vive VR headset in the previous year.

Apple has confirmed the purchase but did not give out any information on their specific plans to use the company’s technology.
