French telecommunications regulator ARCEP published this week a 65-page report which argues in favor of applying net neutrality to devices such as smartphones.
ARCEP president Sébastien Soriano says that devices have a bias, and connected devices such as home assistants are even less neutral. As the French equivalent of the FCC, ARCEP says that it wants to keep an eye on the limitations of both apps and devices so that consumers will not be stuck in a closed ecosystem.
ARCEP also said that consumers should have a choice to use alternative services and content. A list which include some of these apps have been made in the report.
