It was revealed earlier this week that Best Buy’s computer technicians known as the Geek Squad had been assisting the FBI in flagging images of child abuse on the computers that they repair.

This however, “circumvents computer owners’ Fourth Amendment rights” to privacy according to rights group EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) which discovered the relationship in a document it had obtained last year.

The FBI declined to give a comment when asked by the EFF, while Best Buy said that it prohibits its technicians “from doing anything other than what is necessary to solve the customer’s problem”.
