Germany’s incoming minister, Dorothee Baer, said this last Saturday that she is planning to talk to Google and Facebook on how posts are sequenced on their platforms.

Baer added that the algorithms used by the tech giants which sort posts according to relevance and popularity often push up old posts that have little to do with the truth, and that she would like users to have real-time timelines that show information that they need to know, and not only what they want to know.

It is said that “social media bubbles” where users are unable to discern what is fake news may have contributed to Donald Trump’s win in the US elections and Britain’s exit from the European Union.
