McAfee Advanced Threat Research senior analyst Ryan Sherstobitoff recently revealed that they had found that organizations involved in the Winter Games were targeted by malicious documents a few days before the cyber attacked that had affected the Winter Olympics opening ceremonies last Friday.

South Korean publication Yonhap News reported that PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Games (POCOG) servers were hacked and were temporarily shut down by the organization to prevent further damage.

Sherstobitoff says it is still unclear if the attackers have greater motives, or are only looking to cause disruption. Nonetheless, he said that the attacks are likely to continue throughout the duration of the event.
