Several US cybersecurity firms recently revealed that a malware called “Olympic Destroyer” was used to disrupt the Pyeongchang Winter Games opening ceremony last Friday.

Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO.O), CrowdStrike and FireEye Inc (FEYE.O) reported that the malware was used to delete critical system files which caused the disruption to television and internet services. However, game organizers confirmed that critical operations were not affected.

In a blogpost, Cisco said that it seems the attacker’s objective was only the embarrassment of the Olympic committee. The three companies also said that it was still unclear who was behind the incident.
