Facebook Introduces Tools for Reporting Messenger Conversations

In response to criticisms of its Messenger app, Facebook unveiled new tools which will allow users to report conversations that are in violation of its Community Standards. Users can now flag messages that may fall under categories such as harassment, hate speech, or suicide which will be escalated to the Facebook review team. Facebook Project Attempts to Deradicalize Using Messenger

It was reported that Facebook is currently engaged in a project where its messaging service is being used to deradicalize extremists. The Facebook-funded pilot is led by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a counter-extremism organization. In the program, users in the UK who post extreme-far right Islamist content are contacted and have their views challenged, which is similar to the recruitment methods of extremist groups. Facebook Introduces Messaging App for Kids Under 13

Last Monday, Facebook launched Messenger Kids, a version of the messenger app aimed at children under 13. The new communications app is seen as an effort to win over younger children in the face of tight competition against platforms such as Snapchat. Facebook currently requires all users to be over 13, and the standalone app promises to give parents control over how their kids use messaging apps and what kind of content they send over them. Paypal Transactions Now Possible Over Messenger

It was announced last Friday that US Paypal users can now send and receive person-to-person payments on Facebook Messenger. The plan, which was jointly announced around a year ago by both companies, now allows US customers to shop from Messenger chatbots, and pay via Paypal. Facebook users can now also link their Paypal accounts to Messenger and set it as a default method of payment. Paypal also announced that customers may now get support by chatting with their Messenger bot, which can process normal, everyday language.
