Attackers Use Google Maps URL-Sharing to Push Shady Sites

The Sophos security team recently reported that scammers are using the Google Maps URL-sharing feature to send their victims to phishing websites or those that contain malware. Sophos says that the scam messages they discovered used both the Maps feature and goo.gl URL shortener to redirect users to a Russian diet-pill scam website. The attackers are able to do this by exploiting an open redirection vulnerability affecting the maps.app.goo.gl service. Businesses on Google Maps Can Now Mark Themselves as Women-Led

Google announced last Wednesday that businesses in Google Maps can now list themselves as women-led, owned, or founded whenever applicable. In celebration of Women’s Day, Google said that users will now be able to see an icon with the female gender symbol on such businesses, along with other descriptors like kosher food, outdoor seating and Wi-Fi. Google spokeswoman Liz Davidoff said that the search giant is striving to organize the world’s information to be inclusive of all people, and that they to empower women-led businesses to success online.
