Telegram Will Bypass Russia Ban, Says CEO

Last Friday, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov revealed that their application will be using its built-in systems to bypass the ban Russia had brought down last Friday. Durov said on his VK page that users will not have to do anything. However, he cannot guarantee that the messaging app will work 100% without using VPNs. A Russian court had already ruled in favor of the Roskomnadzor to ban the encrypted messaging service in the country, but the date of effectivity had not been specified. Source: Reuters

Russia Moves to Block Telegram via Lawsuit

Russia’s communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, said that it has filed a lawsuit against popular encrypted messaging app Telegram for refusing to give the FSB access to its users’ private messages. The Russian security service said that it needed access to the secret messages to aid its work, particularly against terrorism, and said that Telegram had to comply with its obligation as an organizer of information distribution. Apple Restores Telegram in App Store

Apple announced that it has restored popular secure messaging app Telegram in its App Store. Telegram and Telegram X had been removed yesterday when Apple found that inappropriate content was being spread on the messaging platform. Both apps however, were not removed from Play Store. CEO Pavel Durov revealed that around 500,000 users download Telegram everyday on Play Store, and 100,000 for iOS. Telegram, which is touted as a more secure than apps such as WhatsApp, use end-to-end encryption, supports self-destructing messages, and leaves no data on company servers.  Source: ZDNet

Iran Blocks Telegram and Instagram

The Iranian government has blocked Telegram and Instagram after a spate of anti-establishment protests in the country. The government says that the encrypted messaging app and the social media platform had been used to organize the protests and promote dissent in the country.
