PCC to Examine Grab-Uber Deal

The Philippine Competition Commission said last Monday that it will be looking into Grab’s acquisition of Uber’s Southeast Asian business as the it could substantially reduce competition. In an official statement, the PCC said that the deal is expected to have a far-reaching impact on transportation services and the riding public. Grab and Uber dominated the ride-hailing market in the Philippines until Uber’s retreat from the region. PCC Publishes its Rules of Procedure

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has published its 2017 Rules of Procedure (Rules), which shall guide the PCC in the handling of complaints, referrals from regulatory agencies, and motu proprio inquiries, as well as in the conduct of its investigations. Under the Rules, the PCC, through the Enforcement Office, shall conduct a 90-day preliminary inquiry on the basis of a verified complaint, referral by a regulatory agency, or a directive from the Chairman and the Commissioners of the PCC
