EU Watchdog Orders Privacy Changes from Yahoo After Data Breach

Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner recently ordered Yahoo to change its privacy measures in accordance to EU law after completing an investigation into what is considered to be one of the largest ever data breaches in the EU. The Irish DPC told Yahoo to ensure that all its data protection policies take account of the applicable data protection law, and are reviewed and updated at defined regular intervals, as well as update its data processing contracts and procedures associated with such contracts to be compliant with EU laws. One in 200 Google Search Suggestions “Malicious”

According to a recent study by US university researchers, one of every 200 Google search autocomplete suggestions are used to drive traffic to malicious sites and content such as malware. The researchers said that they were able to identify several companies that offer blackhat search engine optimization (BHSEO) techniques are used to manipulate autocomplete search queries for around $1 to $20 per day. The study showed that mainstream search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing had 383K manipulated suggestions (across 257K triggers), particularly Google that had at least 0.48% of its results ‘polluted’.
