Twitter recently said that it had banned pornographic “deepfake” videos as it goes against the platform’s policies.

Deepfakes are clips where in the faces of celebrities and personalities are superimposed onto the face of actresses in pornographic videos. Even though Twitter allows adult content on its platform, the company says that deepfakes violate their rules against intimate images that feature a subject without their consent.

Deepfakes are created using artificial intelligence to yield a computer-generated version of the subject’s face which are often very convincing, especially if the two subjects involved have similar body types.
