Alexa Soon to Sell Products to Customers Based on Physical, Emotional State

Amazon has reportedly patented technology for Alexa that could determine a user’s physical and emotional state and sell them products based on such information.

Filed in March 2017, the patent entitled “Voice-based determination of physical and emotional characteristics of users,” was issued Tuesday this week. According to the patent description, the technology would enable Alexa to identify, for example, if a person needs medication based on a cough or a sniffle.

Other abnormal physical or emotional conditions may also trigger Alexa to deliver highly targeted audio content, such as ads or promotions.
