Amazon, eBay Pull CloudPets Smart Toys Due to Cybersecurity Risk

A number of retailers including Amazon and eBay have taken off their shelves a brand of cuddly smart toys after a Mozilla-commissioned research had uncovered a number of vulnerabilities.

Concerns about the toys had already been raised in 2017 when it was found that the voice recordings taken by the products were being stored online without any protection. The manufacturer, Spiral Pets, said that they immediately addressed the concern at that time.

Professor Angela Sasse of the University College London says that it was disappointing to see that the manufacturer had to be shamed by Mozilla before they took action.
