Antitrust Case Filed Against Amazon in Austria

The Austrian Retail Association has reportedly filed an antitrust case against Amazon with Austria’s Federal Competition Authority (BWB) due to the role of the ecommerce giant as a retailer and marketplace.

The retailers complained that Amazon can in theory see the prices of the listed retailers (on its platform), and therefore undercut their prices and attract all that business in the long run. Additionally, around 93 percent of all Austrian online shoppers have made a purchase on Amazon at least once.

The European Commission and Germany’s antitrust authority said that they will also look into the issue.
