AT&T/Verizon Lobbyists to Fight Aggressively Against States Supporting Net Neutrality
USTelecom, a lobby group representing AT&T, Verizon and other US telcos published a blog post this week entitled “All Americans Deserve Equal Rights Online” where it made its intentions clear that it will be suing states and cities that plan to enforce net neutrality.
USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter pointed out that state regulations on net neutrality are in conflict with America’s founding principles, and there should only be one standard for all cities and states.
It was noted that the US did have a nationwide standard which prevented ISPs from blocking, throttling, or prioritizing Internet content for a fee. However, USTelecom opposed these rules and lost, until current FCC chair Ajit Pai was able to overturn the rules.
