Australia’s Facebook Probe May Take 8 Months

Australia’s acting Information and Privacy Commissioner Rachel Falk informed Senate Estimates this week that it may take her office up to 8 months to complete its investigation into the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal.

Falk said that while a standard probe into a potential breach or alleged misuse of data does take around that long, the complexities surrounding Facebook’s situation may require more time.

The acting OAIC head added that if she or the Commissioner were to find that no breach of privacy had happened, then the matter would be closed. However, if the commissioner does find that there had been a breach of privacy, then a decision as to what the appropriate regulatory outcome might be should be made.
