Bitdefender Launches Free Decrypter for GandCrab-Locked Files

Bitdefender said this week that the cyber criminals behind the GandCrab ransomware may have lost around $1 million in ransom payments after the antivirus company released its free decrypter tool last week.

Bitdefender said that their tool had helped some 1700 victims to decrypt their files an hour after they released it.

However, the tool, which was released in collaboration with various law enforcement organizations around the world, does not work with GandCrab versions v2 and v3, but those versions have been active only between February and July, and have not been seen in recent infections.
