China Detains Third Canadian Amid Huawei Issue

A third Canadian has reportedly been detained in China this week, following the issue of the arrest of a Huawei top executive which was made on the request of the US.

 

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is being pressured to take a more robust stance on the detentions, but Trudeau said that he will not be “stomping on the table” as it may affect the release of the Canadian nationals.

 

Trudeau said that China gave little information on the detentions, but the latest ons was “a very separate case” from last week when former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor were detained amid the diplomatic quarrel triggered by Meng’s arrest.
