China to Lift Great Firewall in Hainan Island
0 comments
China is reportedly planning to allow foreigners access to sites blocked by the country’s “Great Firewall” on Hainan island, which the government is planning to transform into the “Hawaii of the East”.
It is said that the island will also be transformed into an international free trade zone for foreign investment, luxury, gambling, and tourism by 2020.
However, it is not sure if locals will also be given access to banned sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. The plan, which was published on the local government’s website, was taken down a day after.
