Cybercriminals Use Multilingual Domain Names to Create Fake Sites

Researchers from Farsight Security recently warned that cyber criminals are abusing multilingual character sets to create fake versions of banks, brands, and similar popular websites.

The scammers were reportedly able to create lookalike scam sites of Lego and Haribo using non-English characters in the domain names, with the difference is especially difficult to discern on a smartphone.

In their report, Farsight further revealed that out of more than 100 million domain names that use non-English character sets, around 27% had been created by scammers.
