Data of Israel WhatsApp Users Reportedly Being Shared with Facebook
A number of users have raised their concerns regarding reports that users in Israel are now connected to WhatsApp via Facebook servers, according to WhatsApp fansite WABetaInfo.
Users on Twitter said that this makes user metadata available for Facebook to read. When WABetaInfo tried to allay worries by saying that all chats and calls were end-to-end encrypted, some users pointed out that it was not the problem, but rather that metadata like last seen, online time, etc. which are dynamic and are not needed after a particular time have to be deleted from the servers.
WhatsApp has not yet officially responded to the issue, while WABetaInfo said that users will have to wait till May to see which data are really stored in the WhatsApp server and if it could potentially be a problem.
