DICT Celebrates PH Startup Week

During the Philippine Startup Week held last November 14 to 18, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) honored homegrown startups for contributing to the growing Philippine ecosystem.

The week kicked off with the opening ceremony, featuring speakers from both the public and private sector. On the second day, the Philippine Startup Challenge was held, where 10 startup teams showcased their innovative products and services in front of an esteemed panel of judges. In the end, the University of San Jose-Recoletos’ team SUGOD was hailed overall champion for their service called 91Watch, a program that seeks to improve the efficiency of the national emergency hotline 911. The third day encouraged partnerships among DOST-funded incubators, while the fourth day showcased success stories, in hopes of inspiring more startups to innovate and further strive for success. On the fifth and last day, the country’s biggest players in the startup community, such as Microsoft, PLDT, and PwC Philippines, held a conference as organized by QBO Innovation Hub.

The event was a collaborative initiative by the DICT with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), QBO Innovation Hub, and other private agencies.
