DICT, ITU to Integrate AI into Policymaking

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) co-organized AI Dialogue: Gender-Based AI Policy in the Philippines last 29-31 March 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Quezon City.

Held in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the conference aims to promote the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). The dialogue centers on how AI can be standardized and eventually integrated into policy-making. It also explores the impacts of the use of AI in society, and how crucial it is in shaping the future.

According to Undersecretary Anna Mae Y. Lamentillo, recognizing the transformative power of AI and encouraging its use will be the key to improving industries and the national economy. Taking it one step further, Undersecretary Lamentillo emphasizes that AI must be gender-sensitive and inclusive.

The ITU is set to conduct foundational training and create a regional network of female policy makers, regulators and delegates in the Philippines. This project shall continue until June 2024 and is expected to share good practices to bolster coordination and cooperation in Southeast Asia.
