DICT Launches the First Barangay-Based Digital Transformation Center in Zamboanga City

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched the first ever barangay-based Digital Transformation Center (DTC) last August 20, 2022 in Mercedes, Zamboanga City.

The DTC Initiative was launched in September 2019 with the purpose of enhancing the digital capacities of citizens, particularly those from underserved areas. A DTC serves as an I-C-T Hub. It is where startups incubate; where coworking and collaboration occur; and where Filipinos can be trained to have ICT skills.

In 2021, the DICT launched the first DTCs on a city-level in Isabela City, Basilan, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga City. Isabela City DTC has 41 computers and can accommodate 50 people; Dipolog City DTC has 20 computers and can accommodate 35 people; while Zamboanga City has 37 computers and can accommodate 52 people. The DTC in Mercedes is the very first barangay-based DTC, which now has 10 computers, 5 tablets, and a printer for the community’s ICT needs. The DICT will also be conducting ICT training to enhance the people’s digital literacy and make them job-ready.
