DICT Promotes Online Safety Measures for LGBTQ+

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to enact a safety measure for the online protection of members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and more (LGBTQ+) community.

During the Senate committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality hearing held last September 19, DICT Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Camba said that a safety measure should be put in place to protect members of the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination online. In line with this, the DICT expressed its support for the proposed Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity or Expression, or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) Equality Act.

With the aim of promoting a safer digital space for Filipinos, the DICT also supported child online protection initiative, including the Child Online Safeguarding Policy (COSP).
