DICT: Third Telco Subject to More Stringent Cybersecurity Rules

Acting Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said this week that the country’s third major telco player will be subjected to more stringent cybersecurity requirements to prevent threats to national security.

Rio revealed that DICT is working with multiple government agencies, including the National Security Adviser, to draft a set of conditions for the China-backed Mislatel Consortium as it undergoes its post-qualification stage.

The secretary added that the cybersecurity requirements for Mislatel will be more than what is currently required from incumbents PLDT’s Smart Communications and Globe Telecom.
