Didi Rider Murder Prompts Clampdown on Ride-Hailing in China

The Chinese government said this week that it will be clamping down on the ride-hailing industry and warned that there was no need for it as it only compromises passenger safety.

The move was prompted by a recent incident where a Didi driver raped and murdered a 20-year old passenger in the eastern city of Wenzhou.

The Chinese transport ministry added that the public will vote with their feet and the government will take action on companies that are not compliant, self-disciplined, and do not take their passengers’ lives seriously.
