EU Launches Probe Into Hacked Diplomatic Cables

The EU’s Council Secretariat announced this week that it has become aware of allegations of a potential leak of sensitive information and will be investigating the issue.
It was reported earlier in the week by the New York Times that hackers had been able to access the EU’s diplomatic communications for years and were able to intercept information pertaining to the Trump administration, Russia-China deals, and the revival of Iran’s nuclear program.
The NYT said it got more than 1,100 cables supplied by security firm Area 1 after it discovered the breach. Area 1 investigators believe that the hackers work for China’s People’s Liberation Army.
