EU May “Break up” Google
Earlier this week, European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager suggested that the option to “break up” Google should not be ruled out.
It is said that EU leaders think that Google has become too dominant, making it a threat to smaller companies. The search giant is currently facing new EU regulations that may call into question its commercial practices with businesses that use its services. The new rules will seek greater transparency from e-commerce sites, app stores and search engines and compel them to divulge how search results are ranked and why certain services are delisted.
The antitrust chief also commented last year that Google can expect to face more cases in addition to the one where it received a fine of $2.97 million.
