EU to Take Tougher Stance on Cyber Risks Posed by China

Brussels is planning to take a tougher stance on China as concerns grow over cyber theft and espionage allegedly linked to Beijing.

Diplomats have said that alarms raised by the US, Japan and Australia about increasing involvement of Chinese businesses in crucial technological infrastructure has dovetailed with rising European fears.

However, the EU is reportedly unable to launch a coordinated efforts since governments want to be free to manage tenders, like lucrative 5G auctions. Chinese firm Huawei is currently the leading candidate to supply equipment for the next-gen network and this could possibly lead to the entire bloc using equipment from a sole provider.
