Facebook Approved Cambridge Analytica Ad, Takes it Down Again

Guardian and Observer journalist Carole Cadwalladr recently revealed that Facebook had approved an ad allegedly paid for by UK analytics firm Cambridge Analytica, but took it down soon after.

However, the ad is still visible in the platform’s new ad transparency portal and can be seen using the logo of EU referendum campaign BeLeave which was previously found to have violated electoral law.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the ad was fake and was not created by Cambridge Analytica, which closed down in May. Cadwalladr remarked that the incident just highlights how completely useless Facebook’s new transparency rules were.
