Facebook Open Source recently tweeted about the launch of a new unit of time called “flicks” which is equivalent to 1/705,600,000 of a second.

“Flick”, which has its name derived from “frame tick”, was initially conceived by engineer Christopher Horvath who put his idea on GitHub in 2017. While flicks may not make much of a general impact, an Oxford researcher said that it will help create better VR experiences since it will allow programmers to measure time between media frames without using fractions.

Lead research engineer at BBC Research and Development Matt Hammond further explained that errors can add up when numbers used are not integers, which makes inaccuracies more noticeable.
