Facebook Investigates Intelligence Firm Palantir for Improper Access to User Data
Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer confirmed to UK lawmakers last Thursday that they are looking into concerns regarding the improper access of Palantir to Facebook user data.
Palantir, an American big data firm co-founded by Peter Thiel, is closely associated with the NSA and CIA and has a reputation for being highly secretive. The company’s name was mentioned last March by whistleblower Christopher Wylie in his revelations where he claimed that Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix had several meetings with Palantir. This resulted to senior Palantir employees working on Facebook profile data which was then shared to Cambridge Analytica.
Palantir denied having this relationship at that time, but later on said that they discovered that an employee did have contact with the UK analytics firm, but in a personal capacity.
