Facebook Loses Bid to Delay Referral of Privacy Case in EU
0 comments
It was reported this week that the Irish High Court has denied Facebook’s request to extend the referral of its privacy case to the European Court of Justice.
High Court Judge Caroline Costello ordered the referral to be made immediately, saying that the court will cause the least injustice if it delivers the reference immediately to the ECJ. While Facebook said that it will be asking the permission of the Irish court to appeal the referral, it will no longer serve to delay the ECJ’s hearing of the case.
It is said that a ruling of the ECJ against Facebook could present major difficulties to companies which transfer data from Europe to the US.
