Facebook Pledges Support for US Privacy Regulation

Facebook chief privacy officer Erin Egan confirmed this week that the company will back a comprehensive federal privacy regulation in the US.

Speaking at a privacy conference at the European Parliament in Brussels, she said that Facebook will also back strong and effective privacy rules around the world. It was noted however, that CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who also spoke at the event via a video message, did not reiterate Egan’s statement. Instead, he largely repeated messages found in his previous speeches, which is about steps the company is taking to improve its privacy and transparency, and about the need to remain ad-supported because of user preference.
