Facebook Scrubs Data Key to Russian Meddling Investigation
A Washington Post report recently revealed that Facebook had deleted key information critical to the investigation on Russia’s involvement in last year’s US elections.
The internet giant had apparently scrubbed all posts on the Internet related to the research of social media analyst Jonathan Albright, which showed there were at least twice as many people who saw the Russian political ads than what Facebook had claimed.
Albright said that Facebook deleted public interest data that could have allowed them to make sense out of the matter. Facebook on the other hand, said that Albright only saw the information because of a “bug” in their CrowdTangle analytics tool, which has now been fixed to restrict users from seeing cached information from inactive pages as intended.
