Facebook to Require Verification for UK Political Ad Buyers
Facebook announced this week that UK advertisers have to undergo a verification process before they can buy political ads on the platform.
The firm says that buyers have to confirm their identity, location, and once approved, political ads will be housed in an “Ad Library” for seven years. Facebook director of product management Rob Leathern also confirmed in a blogpost that advertisers who are unable to get authorization will not be able to run political ads.
However, Facebook clarified that select UK news organizations will be exempt from housing their content in Facebook’s Ad Library. The exemption will also be expanded in the United States next year.
