Facebook to Reveal Buyers of UK Political Adverts
Facebook said this week that in its efforts to counter the spread of misinformation, it will now be requiring British political ads to bear disclaimers and identity flags.
According to the firm, advertisers who mention political figures, material or parties will need to provide evidence of their identity and location, and display who is paying for the advertisement. These information will be stored by Facebook up to seven years.
The company says that the move will be an important part of ensuring electoral integrity and help people understand who they are engaging with.
