Gfycat has reported that it had recently deleted several videos that feature the face of celebrities merged onto pornographic actresses using an app called FakeApp.

The app uses a machine-learning algorithm to create a computer-generated rendering of the celebrity’s face. These videos, called “deepfakes” can look quite convincing especially if the celebrity is similar in build to the actress in the pornographic video.

The San Francisco-based short video hosting company said that while they allow adult content, deepfakes consists “involuntary pornography”, which the platform prohibits.
