From Rupiah to Ringgit – Payment Services Regulation in Southeast Asia

Last 13 November 2019, Disini & Disini Law’s managing partner, Atty. JJ Disini, participated in an interactive panel discussion organized by the International Technology Law Association and Pinsent Masons on the regulation of payment systems in Southeast Asia. From Rupiah to Ringgit – Payment Services Regulation in Southeast Asia focused on the regulatory perspectives in line with Singapore’s Payment Services Act. Discussions within the panel covered topics such as licensing, regulatory and compliance costs, talent and manpower resources, regulatory issues, and emerging trends in payments. 

 

Atty. Disini shared his own perspectives from the Philippines, informed by such developments as the recent enactment of the National Payment Systems Act (Republic Act No. 11127) and related guidelines from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. 

 

Other notable experts from different parts of Southeast Asia who participated in the panel were Bryan Tan of Pinsent Masons (Singapore), Vinay Ahuja of DFDL (Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar), Kunal Sachdev of DFDL (Cambodia, Lao, and Vietnam), and Christina Kow of Shearn Delamore & Co. (Malaysia).
