German Government Used Hackers to Track Culprits, Says Top Ministry Official
Deputy Interior Minister Ole Schroeder revealed last Thursday that German security officials had been using hackers to find the culprits who had launched an attack on the government’s networks.
Schroeder said that the security officials were able to contain the cyber attack while tracking the malicious actors suspected to be the Russian hacking group APT28 by the media. However, economy Minister Brigitte Zypries refuted the idea and said that it would be problematic if Moscow were indeed behind the attack.
The parliamentary committee which oversees intelligence agencies had been briefed about the incident last Thursday. Opposition lawmakers however, questioned why they had not been informed sooner.
