Germany Commences 5G Auctions
Germany’s BNetzA agency announced last Monday that applications for the 5G spectrum has been opened, and the deadline for submissions has been set January 25 with the auction beginning in early 2019.
The German network regulator said that they will be auctioning spectrum in the 2.0 GHz and 3.6 GHz which are best suited to data-intensive industrial or urban applications, as well as 3.7 – 3.8 GHz and 26 GHz ranges suitable for local applications such as superfast networks for industrial campuses.
Germany’s three main carriers – Deutsche Telekom , Vodafone and Telefonica Deutschland – are all expected to bid despite their reservations over the costs and design of the auctions. However, it is said that the players were disappointed by the compromise struck by the regulator and are likely to take their grievances to court.
