Germany to Find Ways to Exclude Huawei from 5G Contract

The Handelsblatt recently reported that the German government is currently discussing security standards that Huawei is unlikely to meet in order to block its participation.

It marks a shift in the government’s position since lawmakers previously said that it saw no legal basis to exclude any vendors from an upcoming 5G auction, despite warnings from Washington.

The US have repeatedly warned allies that Huawei is ultimately at the beck and call of the Chinese state, and that its network may have “back doors” that could open them up to cyber espionage.
