Google Ads Blocks “Ethereum” Keyword, Startup Claims

Smart contract auditing startup Decenter tweeted this week that Google Ads had blacklisted keywords that mentioned Ethereum, along with a screenshot of the error message that they got.

Decenter’s said in its post that they got the error when testing keywords for “ethereum smart contract audits” and “eos smart contract audits” and found that only the EOS-referenced keyword showed ads.

In response, Google explained that targeting other countries except for the US and Japan could be the reason for the ad rejection. It also said that it would not be able to preemptively confirm if the company’s keywords are eligible to trigger ads and told it to refer to the ‘Cryptocurrencies’ section of its policy on Financial products and services.
