High Percentage of Apps Collect Data Excessively, China Consumers Association Says

A recent report from the China Consumers Association showed that around 91 out of a 100 apps may be collecting personal data excessively.

It is said that the report signals the growing concern over data privacy in China. While it seems that most Chinese are willing to give up their personal details for the sake of convenience, this may be changing as consumers become more aware of security issues and companies work to improve collection practices.

In an interview last week, Ziyang Fan, head of digital trade at the World Economic Forum said that Baidu CEO Robin Li’s comment that Chinese people don’t care about data privacy had provoked popular backlash.
