Huawei Exec Granted Bail After China Detains Canadian
0 comments
A Canadian court has granted bail to Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou ahead of her extradition hearing this week. However, the bail was set at CA$ 10 million and Meng was required to wear an ankle bracelet, surrender her passports, stay in Vancouver, and stay confined to one of her two Vancouver homes between 11pm and 6am.
Meng was arrested in Canada over allegations that Huawei had used a Hong Kong shell company to sell equipment in Iran, violating US trade sanctions.
In response to the arrest, China threatened “consequences” against Canada and the US. The detention of former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig in Beijing, is thought to be in connection to the incident.
